George Thorogood & the Destroyers
For the past 45 years, it’s been very good to be George Thorogood & The Destroyers. And in 2021, their Good To Be Bad Tour: 45 Years Of Rock will prove why like never before. For Thorogood and his longtime band – Jeff Simon (drums, percussion), Bill Blough (bass guitar), Jim Suhler (rhythm guitar) and Buddy Leach (saxophone) – the power to rock audiences has been both battle cry and creed from the beginning. “Since I was 17,” George says, “all I wanted to do was see how far I could go with my guitar, putting my own spin on music I loved.” After a few hard years as a solo acoustic performer – a period he would revisit with his acclaimed 2017 album Party Of One – George added a drummer and bass player to form the electric trio he called The Destroyers. Built around Thorogood’s fiery guitar skills, explosive performance style and a blistering take on blues rarities, the band began to gain a devout following at college parties around their native Wilmington, Delaware. It was at one of their earliest shows that Thorogood had his live performance epiphany. “It wasn’t about the amount of people we drew, but rather the impression we made,” he explains. “I asked myself, ‘Are we reaching them? Do they want more?’ And from the very first set we knew that we had something special.”Thorogood & The Destroyers remain unstoppable. In the past few years alone, the band released a top-selling limited edition 7” single for Record Store Day and saw the re-issues of their legendary Bad To The Bone, Born To Be Bad and Greatest Hits: 30 Years Of Rock albums on 180-gram colored vinyl. Thorogood himself received the 2018 B.B. King Award from The Montreal International Jazz Festival, and his solo debut Party Of One – which critics called “brilliant” (Spin), “electrifying” (Guitar Player) and “chock full of classics” (Music Connection) – became George’s fastest-selling disc in over 20 years. And in 2020, Epiphone created the George Thorogood ‘White Fang’ ES-125TDC premier signature model guitar, while Craft Recordings released George Thorogood & The Destroyers Live In Boston 1982: The Complete Concert that Classic Rock says “may well be one of the great live albums, entirely superb and a master class in live performance.” And as in past years, a portion of proceeds from every date on the Good To Be Bad Tour will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “Now we’re talking about something that’s really important,” George says. “When I was a kid I remember Robert F. Kennedy saying, ‘Some people see things as they are and ask why. I dream things that never were and ask why not?’ That still gives me the chills today. After completing their 2019 ” Speck” Tour in the fall, The Boxmasters’ Bud and J.D. did as they ordinarily do and went back to the studio with a few songs and started recording. Another album titled “Boxmasters ’66” was already finished before the tour, so with only the idea that the new songs would be a followup to that the recording process began. Drawing upon the sounds of the Vox Jaguar, Mellotron and Farfisa keyboards The Boxmasters formed their 9th release “Light Rays.””Boxmasters ’66 was our album that took mid ’60’s garage-rock as its underlying influence and so we wanted to follow it up with an album that took a later ’60’s direction. And after we were done we decided that “Light Rays” should be the next release and “’66” we would try to release in conjunction with the 2021 ‘Record Store day’ says J.D. “Also “Light Rays” is the first album that Bud and I recorded without any outside collaboration. We recorded a few songs at Barefoot Recording where they had a vintage Vox Jaguar and I played it on the songs and it just had shuch a distinct sound that we were totally knocked out by. It has a sound that blends into a track in a way that modern reproductions can’t do.””Light Rays” will be the first album that The Boxmasters have release that won’t have a tour based on it to support the release due to the Coronavirus. A European, Canadian and U.S. tour was booked for the summer of 2020 but has been postponed until the summer of 2021 which was a first for The Boxmasters. “We’ve always talked about touring Europe and we’ve heard from many fans over the years that they would love to see us. So we were very excited about the opportunity to play our music in front of a lot of different audiences that haven’t heard us live before.” says J.D.Formed in 2007, The Boxmasters have recorded an impressive and diverse catalogue of music that touches on their love of a wide array of influences, but most importantly, the rock and roll of the 1960’s. Listening to The Boxmaster, one can hear obvious odes to the Beatles, Byrds and Beach Boys, but also important to The Boxmasters are The Mothers of Invention, Kris Kristofferson, Jone Prine and Big Star.Since forming The Boxmasters, several long-time friends have contributed to the sound of the band, but the core of The Boxmaster has always been J.D. Andrew and Billy Bob Thornton. As primary songwriters, the sound of the Boxmasters has been an evolution as the duo constantly strive to find new inspritation, new osunds and new ways of expressing what is in their hearts and on their minds. But at the core, there is a backbeat, a lyric with meaning and music played with emotion. As a touring band, The Boxmasters have cultivated a rabid cult fanbase across the United States and Canada. Opening for the likes of ZZ Top, Steve Miller, George Thorogood and Kid Rock The Boxmasters have proven to win over large audiences. As a headliner, frequent stops in Kansas City at “Knuckleheads”, Springfield, Illinois at “Boondocks” and “Merrimack Hall” in Huntsville, Alabama have show dedicated yet still growing audiences. Peter Blair Denis Bernard Noone is a multi-talented entertainer, who has been delighting audiences nearly all his life. He was born in Manchester, England, where he studied voice and acting at St. Bede’s College and the Manchester School of Music and Drama. As a child, he played “Stanley Fairclough” in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street. He was also featured in the television series Knight Errant, Family Solicitor and Monro’s Saki Stories. At the age of fifteen, Peter achieved international fame as “Herman”, lead singer of the legendary pop band Herman’s Hermits.
